GTA 6 Rumors: The Biggest Leaks and Speculation Every Fan Is Talking About

The Largest GTA Map Ever? Everything We Know About GTA 6's World

Grand Theft Auto has always been defined by scale — the freedom to drive from one end of a sprawling city to the other without a single loading screen. With Grand Theft Auto VI now locked in for a November 19, 2026 release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, that tradition of ambition looks set to reach an entirely new level. Fans and analysts alike are convinced this will be the biggest playground Rockstar has ever built — and the evidence backs them up.

Welcome to Leonida

GTA 6 trades Los Santos for the fictional state of Leonida, a stand-in for Florida built around a reimagined, neon-soaked Vice City — Rockstar's take on Miami. But Leonida is far more than one city. Official reveals and trailers have confirmed a handful of distinct regions that make up the wider state, including:

  • Vice City – the urban core, split into neighborhoods like Ocean Beach, Little Havana, and Little Haiti
  • Leonida Keys – a tropical island chain built for boating and jet-skiing
  • Grassrivers – Everglades-style wetlands packed with wildlife
  • Port Gellhorn – a rundown coastal town with a seedy edge
  • Ambrosia – an industrial belt of factories and refineries
  • Mount Kalaga / Kelly County – rural and mountainous terrain that breaks up the coastline and swamps

That mix of dense city, open wilderness, and small-town Americana gives Leonida a level of environmental variety the series hasn't attempted before.

So, How Big Is It Actually?

Rockstar hasn't published an official square-kilometer figure, but the community hasn't waited around. Dedicated fan mapping projects — stitching together trailer footage, screenshots, and leaked assets — have produced increasingly confident estimates. Depending on the source, the consensus lands somewhere between 2.1 and 2.7 times the size of GTA 5's Los Santos, with some independent calculations putting the total explorable area north of 125 square kilometers.

For context, GTA 5's map was already considered enormous when it launched in 2013. A map more than double that size — with Rockstar having had over a decade to refine density and detail — would comfortably make GTA 6 the largest world the studio has ever shipped, and one of the biggest open worlds in mainstream gaming.

It's worth noting these numbers are still estimates rather than confirmed specs. Fan cartographers have a strong track record with past Rockstar titles, but the final released map could shift before launch, and some retailer listings hyping up the game's scale have been edited or pulled after the fact.

It's Not Just About Size

Rockstar itself seems aware that raw scale means little without substance. Early trailers have drawn attention less for sheer landmass and more for draw distance and density — fans have pointed out that background details like traffic signs, lamp posts, and distant cars retain a level of fidelity that previous open-world games couldn't sustain at range. That's arguably a bigger technical flex than the map's footprint: a huge world only impresses if it doesn't feel empty when you get there.

There are also reports — unconfirmed — of upwards of 700 enterable interiors scattered across Leonida, plus a full dynamic weather system, both of which would help a map this size feel lived-in rather than like empty padding between missions.

A World Built to Last

Grand Theft Auto V's map is still being explored by millions of players more than a decade after release, kept alive by GTA Online. Rockstar appears to be building GTA 6 with that same longevity in mind, and there have been hints the studio plans to expand Leonida further after launch through post-release content, rather than treating the map as a fixed, finished product.

Whether the final numbers land at 2x or nearly 3x the size of GTA 5, one thing is hard to dispute: when Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval step into Leonida this November, they'll be doing it in the most ambitious world Rockstar has ever built.

Map size estimates in this article are based on community mapping projects and leaked material rather than official confirmation from Rockstar Games. Details are subject to change ahead of the game's release.
